The RoleThe Director, Communications will be a key leader in our small but effective US PR team. We tell our product, financial, innovation, entertainment, and culture stories, and work closely with many different teams, including publicity, product, and marketing. The ideal candidate has experience and a demonstrated ability to define the narrative of publicly listed companies, at both a business and consumer level. They are entrepreneurial, creative, strategic, and business-savvy, thriving in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. They enjoy the challenge of juggling multiple projects and can become a trusted advisor to our global teams as well as Netflix’s executive team. The candidate should have strong writing skills, strong media relationships, a willingness to learn rapidly and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced culture are key.
Based in Los Angeles, this role will report to the Vice President of Communications and will be responsible for managing a small team of communications professionals.
Key ResponsibilitiesThis role requires a seasoned corporate communications executive with experience in the entertainment and/or tech industry. The successful candidate will:
*Set strategy on thought leadership, brand positioning, and reputation issues*Lead all PR around corporate functions - including but not limited to ESG, Policy, Legal and annual reports *Develop creative, thoughtful, and impactful stories to advance Netflix’s priorities*Develop and strengthen relationships with key journalists, columnists, and broadcasters*Provide reputation counsel, support, message management, and media training for key executives*Recognize impactful viewership trends translating those insights into actionable ideas into a cohesive communications strategy*Manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges with high judgment and professionalism
Key Attributes*Excellent media relationships*Excellent at setting strategy, solving problems, and driving momentum for our brand *Strong judgment and business acumenSkilled storyteller who can thoughtfully craft narratives, boil down complex concepts into succinct pitches and with journalists across broadcast, print, online, and radio in both the trade and consumer spaces*Good interpersonal and management skills*Deep familiarity with or enthusiasm for entertainment and technology*An entrepreneurial self-starter who thrives on trying new approaches
Qualifications*A minimum of fifteen years of experience in media, corporate, or agency settings*Proven expertise leading and shaping brands at the corporate level within a global company*Established credibility and relationships within the media, domestically and/or globally, is highly desirable*Ambidextrous in successfully engaging and navigating industry and consumer audiences alike*Prior experience leading, developing, and managing high-performance team(s).
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $380,000 - $775,000. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
