JOB SUMMARY:

Polaris is looking for an ambitious and experienced Sr. Weld Manufacturing Engineer to provide technical leadership on three strategic weld focus areas:  1) Refine design for manufacturing (DFM) processes for Polaris welded vehicle systems 2) Research and evaluate new weld technologies and partner with manufacturing plants to implement. 3) Support our global Polaris weld facilities with continuous improvements on weld processes & quality controls. This exciting opportunity will be based out of our Wyoming, MN research & development facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads cross-functional team with design engineers, new product introduction & weld manufacturing teams to standardize the use of DFM (design for manufacturing) on new Polaris welded vehicle systems.

• Defines weld tooling and fixturing standards, coordinates with tool designers on GD&T execution.

• Applies welding knowledge to support material selection in Polaris products.

• Document, publish, and maintain corporate weld standards and best practices.

• Define new technologies to allow Polaris to meet strategic weld initiatives (safety, quality, delivery, cost) utilizing data analytic tools.  This includes enabling the plants to justify new technology implementation.    

• Develops detailed, complete, and accurate capital equipment studies and makes appropriate recommendations for capital expenditures.

• Maintain and establish relationships with equipment and tooling vendors; develop weld processes and shop floor layouts with equipment integrators to increase automation on future weld expansion projects

• Supports weld make vs. buy decisions and new product development.

• Supports weld quality investigations.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

• Minimum of 5 years of weld engineering experience (GMAW experience required, RSW and other welding/joining experience would be beneficial)

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Welding Engineering preferred

• Experience with automation in weld applications required; familiar with Motoman Yaskawa brand weld robots preferred.

• Efficient in technical writing & publishing new standards using corporate document control systems.

• Experience creating & updating Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS)

• Understanding of quality systems including APQP, FMEA and Control Plans.

• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

• Ability to perform basic functions in CAD software (AutoCAD / Solidworks / Creo Parametric preferred).

• Understands weld callouts and can interpret the engineering drawing requirements (including GD&T).

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing methods and principles.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to travel (up to 25%) within U.S. and occasional plant support visits to Mexico, Poland, and other global plants or vendors as needed.

The pay range for Minnesota is $105,000 to $130,000 per year. Individual salaries are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
