Position Specific Description

This Position is located at NextEra Energy’s Corporate Campus in Juno Beach, Florida. 

 

NextEra Energy, the industry leader in clean energy, is seeking an innovative, dynamic individual to join the Estimating Group within the Engineering & Construction Division. This senior level position will be filled by an individual with experience in renewable estimating or construction and a passion for helping NextEra Energy deliver clean, reliable power to its customers.

 

The Lead Project Estimator will be a key member of the inventive and vibrant Estimating Team and will support design, planning, and budgeting of projects for NextEra Energy. The ideal candidate has experience in the renewable and/or high voltage transmission industry, a highly developed understanding of construction means and methods, a deep understanding of wind, solar, substation, and transmission construction requirements, robust project management skills, and strong leadership qualities. In this role, you will collaborate with cross functional teams involved in project development, planning and execution to develop project estimates and improve estimating tools.

 

This is a leadership role within the team. Day to day responsibilities include leading and preparing estimates, the development of pricing models, and evaluating new technological innovations in the industry. The candidate will have the ability to grow their skillset, as our team also works on a large portfolio of technologies including wind, utility scale solar, distributed solar, energy storage, transmission & distribution lines, substations, water treatment, 5G & fiber, hydrogen, pipelines, and fossil generation.


This position develops, quantifies, costs, and provides a complete capital expenditure (CapEx) model for evaluating projects. CapEx models include all engineering, material, direct construction, and indirect construction costs. Employees in this role provide technical guidance, estimating knowledge, market pricing, staffing considerations during the estimating process, and presenting results up to E&C management.
 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in the following Fields of Study
    • Engineering – Mechanical
    • Engineering – Civil 
    • Engineering – Electrical
    • Construction Science
    • Construction Management
  • Experience:10+ years 
  • Field Experience: 5+ years
  • Strong preference for candidates with previous experience in renewables or transmission projects

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Prepares capital cost estimates
•   Reviews designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
•   Coordinates with other departments, ensuring understanding of project objectives and efficient utilization of resources
•   Reviews layouts, designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggests alternatives, when appropriate
•   Remains current with technology and industry evolution, assuring that capital estimates anticipate the correct market conditions
•   Establishes, builds and implements metrics for cost and construction estimate checks
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
