About the role

General Position Summary:

Senior Director, Commodity Services is responsible for maintaining and enhancing a strong risk management framework for wholesale natural gas and power trading markets, upstream natural gas production assets, and power generation assets under Osaka Gas USA (OGUSA) and providing financial trading infrastructure for OGUSA’s hedge needs. The Senior Director, Commodity Services works with the VP, Commodity Services to keep the OGUSA leadership informed regarding risk management issues.

Essential Job Functions:

Risk Reporting and Monitoring

  • Supervises staff to monitor and report daily position and risk status to the Risk Management Committee members and other Senior Management members in OGUSA
  • Understands and explains positions, MtM, and P&L by desk, book, or transaction
  • Takes ownership of risk systems and provides direction on system setup
  • Understands the OGUSA business and asset portfolio to quantify the inherent risk utilizing risk management tools
  • Supervises staff to create new or improved models and analysis related to pricing, forecasting, and supply/demand balances to support business units as well as broader corporate risk analysis
  • Supports other business units with quantitative analysis (e.g., VaR, CVaR)

Risk Control

  • Supports the development of work processes and procedures necessary to ensure proper segregation of duties as well as other areas related to risk
  • Work with VP, Commodity Services to organize OGUSA Risk Management Committee meetings
  • Participates in enhancing and maintaining the risk management framework with a robust governance environment utilizing a broad spectrum of tools and models
  • Monitors counterparties’ credit risk and directs an appropriate solution to mitigate such credit risk to team members

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff and organizing and monitoring work processes
  • Work with VP to understand Daigas group’s and OGUSA managements’ thoughts/values/philosophy about commodity risk management and instill them to team members
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities
  • Maintains transparent communication, builds strong relationships, communicates organizational information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, etc.
  • Accomplishes staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees
  • Provides useful and ongoing performance feedback, coaching, counseling, performance appraisal, and disciplinary action as needed
  • Completes operations by developing schedules, assigning and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards, resolving operations problems, maintaining reference manuals, and implementing new procedures

Requirements

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Math, or Computer Science
  • MBA or advanced Finance degree preferred
