The Lead Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student behavior management and implementing a positive school climate through the creation and implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports within the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Additionally, the Lead Dean of Students will have instructional leadership responsibilities, supporting the development and implementation of effective instructional strategies to enhance student learning. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment, particularly in an urban educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Implementation of PBIS:
- Lead the development and implementation of school-wide PBIS strategies.
- Create and maintain Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports to address varying levels of student behavioral needs.
- Monitor and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of PBIS initiatives and make necessary adjustments.
Behavior Management
- With a team, lead the development and roll out of the behavior matrix based on the code of conduct.
- Develop and enforce school behavior policies and procedures.
- Provide support and intervention for students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and parents to develop individualized behavior plans.
- Professional Development
- Conduct training sessions for staff on PBIS and effective behavior management techniques.
- Stay updated with current research and best practices in behavior management and share knowledge with staff.
Student Support
- Conduct regular meetings with students to address behavior concerns and provide guidance.
- Implement restorative practices to resolve conflicts and build a positive school community.
- Support students in developing social-emotional skills and resilience.
Instructional Leadership (This position will have some instructional duties.)
- Collaborate with AP, other deans, instructional leaders and teachers to support effective teaching strategies and curriculum implementation.
- Provide coaching and feedback to teachers on classroom management and instructional practices.
- Assist in the development and delivery of professional development sessions focused on instructional improvement.
- Analyze student performance data to identify instructional needs and inform teaching practices.
- Participate in classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to enhance instructional quality.
- Supervise other Deans and wellness team members as assigned
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to align behavior initiatives with the school’s mission and goals.
- Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to the overall school improvement plan.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student behavior and progress.
Additional Duties
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) certification, or actively working towards certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an urban educational setting.
- Demonstrated experience with PBIS and implementing behavior intervention strategies.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a positive school culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a similar role or leadership position within a school.
- Training or certification in restorative practices.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks.
- Experience in instructional leadership or coaching.
