Description
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Stony Brook University (SBU) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track or tenured faculty position, starting Fall 2025, at the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM). We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Genetic Engineering, Immuno-engineering, Biotechnology, or Regenerative Medicine.
The BME department at SBU is highly interdisciplinary, with expanding research areas including cellular and molecular engineering, nanotechnology, single-cell and RNA sequencing, tissue engineering, biomaterials, bioimaging, regenerative medicine, and biotechnology. The department emphasizes collaboration with faculty from diverse disciplines, such as Cancer Center, Chemistry, Neurobiology, Psychology, Pathology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Physics, Computer Science, and Material Sciences. The BME department is part of both the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) and the Renaissance School of Medicine, the largest academic medical center in Suffolk County, NY. Collaboration with Stony Brook Medicine offers access to extensive clinical populations and clinicians across a wide range of specialties. This position is funded through RSOM to foster clinical integration.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a research focus within areas such as genetic and immune analysis, biomarker identification, bioimaging, nanotechnology, microfluidics, stem cells, genetic editing, single-cell and RNA sequencing, cellular and molecular mechanisms, or large-scale data science and AI applications in diagnostics and therapeutics. The selected candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field with significant research training and a record of research excellence.
- Evidence of strong academic credentials and potential for securing extramural funding.
- Demonstrated ability to establish an independent, externally funded research program and excel in teaching and service.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in genetic and immune engineering technologies, single-cell analysis, RNA sequencing, biomarker discovery, large-scale data analysis, biotechnology, and regenerative medicine.
- Ability to engage in translational research and collaborate with clinical investigators and scientists across departments in the Renaissance School of Medicine.
