Manager - EU Government Affairs

Introduction to team

Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.

Expedia Group is looking to recruit a Manager EU Government Affairs to support the Global Government and Corporate Affairs team in Brussels. You will have a key role in our EU policy work, representing our interest before all relevant stakeholders and policy makers. You will be working on regulatory and policy files, in key EU-wide projects.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director, Government Affairs and will support on key EU-wide projects in Brussels, collaborating with the European Government Affairs team and with other internal departments. You will work with several trade associations and also represent Expedia Group to the relevant stakeholders and policy makers at an EU level.

In this role, you will: 

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activities, and develop company positions and approaches.

  • Co-operate with the EU team

  • Monitor relevant EU legislative and regulatory activities, and develop company positions and approaches

  • Shape and implement strategy to partner with and communicate effectively with staff and members of the European Commission, Council and Parliament

  • Represent the company in selected EU trade associations and during conferences/workshops

  • Coordinate campaign efforts at EU level, including producing position papers and presentations

  • Provide relevant, timely, and insightful advice on legislation

  • Support the organization’s policies and objectives across Expedia Group’s supply organization and brands in online travel distribution

  • Produce written materials, such as analytical and research notes, monitoring updates, policy papers, presentations

Experience and qualifications: 

  • 5 + years of experience and knowledge of the EU institutions and of EU decision-making

  • University degree (legal, economic or international relations); a focus on European Union is preferred; or equivalent working experience

  • Technology sector or travel industry experience preferred

  • Fluency in English, good knowledge of French and ideally other EU language

  • Experience in research and analysis on a range of policy topics

  • Ability to build effective relationships through positive communication, integrity and trust

  • Experience in identifying the effects of proposed legislative initiatives and identify threats and opportunities

  • Understanding of the needs of the business in order to prioritize activities and identify threats and opportunities

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex, diverse, changing environment. Adapts well to and is energized by change

  • Passionate team player with a positive can do attitude who is able to work interact well internally across the various businesses and corporate divisions
