- Position Summary
- Full-time position under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) available on or after August 4, 2025 in Financial Services.
The Post-Award Grants Manager focuses on effective post-award grant management in an academic setting, ensuring compliance with federal, state, system, and campus regulations. The role involves leadership and collaboration with external agencies, academic faculty, deans, and the Office of the Provost, executed with independence, innovation, specialized knowledge, and accuracy. Position responsibilities are highly visible to external agencies and have a significant fiscal impact on institutional quality. Furthermore, the position holds significant responsibility for ensuring department activities and records comply with financial aid and grant accounting requirements under GASB, FASB, and GAAP standards. Financial Services, responsible for processing and reporting the university's financial transactions, also provides services for state and local funds, federal grants, contracts, construction projects, and donor contributions, including 501(c)(3) corporations.
- Job Duties
- Duties include but are not limited to:
- Administering federal, state, and non-governmental grants and contracts.
- Monitoring project activities and ensuring compliance with various regulations, such as OMB Uniform Guidance and IRS rules.
- Performing financial analysis, budget reviews, and general ledger checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Generating timely financial reports, managing billing, and coordinating federal reimbursement procedures.
- Reviewing and monitoring subrecipient activities and audits.
- Ensuring grants and contracts are closed out properly.
- Providing training and support to principal investigators and staff on grant processes.
- Overseeing indirect cost recovery and cost-rate negotiations.
- Developing and maintaining systems for grant monitoring, tracking, and reporting. Supervising post-award personnel, setting performance goals, and encouraging professional development.
- Collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders, such as funding agencies, faculty, and administrators, to ensure smooth grant management processes.
- Acting as a liaison for audits, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining relationships with auditors.
- Participating in committee work and ensuring efficient and compliant grant management processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in business administration, accounting, or finance, OR combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Experience: Five (5) years progressive accounting or post award grant accounting experience. Experience supervising and leading post award grant operations.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CMS Sponsor Program module and database, CMS data warehouse, training, system upgrades and testing.
- Experience in higher education/institutional setting.
- A master’s degree.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to flourish in an academic and/or administrative work environment characterized by high expectations for initiative, creativity, accountability, and productivity.
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory environment including OMB Uniform Guidance, EDGAR, and policies and procedures related to sponsored programs, SUAM. Ability to keep abreast of and apply extensive expertise to complex regulations, federal and state laws, and policies pertaining to sponsored research, grants, and contracts. Ability to ensure regulatory compliance while sensitive to the values of an academic environment.
- Proven project management skills. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Experience in developing and implementing systems for budgetary oversight in compliance with grant regulations.
- Expertise in sponsored project management, operations and systems analysis, statistical/computational and research methods, data retrieval, ability to interpret and evaluate data to reach sound conclusions and recommend new or revised processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Expertise with ERP systems and databases, reporting dashboards, training, system upgrades and testing.
