About the job

The Scientific Computing team is looking for a Sr Research Statistician Developer to join our innovative advanced analytics team to develop and maintain production analytics software. Our team engages in methodological research and development and computational engineering to incorporate cutting-edge innovations into statistical software that is used across a wide range of industries, including pharma, insurance, government, and academia. As a member of this team, you will get to work closely with top-tier statisticians on exciting and challenging projects with a real-world impact. As a Sr Research Statistician Developer, you will:

  • Develop production-quality statistical methods and machine learning/AI analytics software by designing, testing, and documenting code.
  • Research, prototype, and select appropriate statistical/machine learning and computational algorithms to meet customer needs.
  • Work closely with architects, developers, technical support, and testing groups.
  • Build expertise in one or more specialized areas of statistics by participating in research conferences and professional activities.
  • Collaborate with other product development teams and testing teams to integrate algorithms into company solutions and products.
  • Promote software via papers and presentations.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.

Required qualifications

  • PHD. or Masters degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with one of the following programming languages: C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • Expertise in a leading-edge area of statistics, such as survey methodology, survival analysis, generalized linear models, longitudinal data analysis, or causal inference.
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized computational techniques required to develop analytics algorithms in statistics fields.
  • Familiarity with a high-level computational language like SAS, MATLAB, or R
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Experience with SAS development environment.
  • Experience commercial software development in C.
  • Experience with CI/CD development environment.
  • Experience implementing multi-threaded and distributed algorithms.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
