Job Description

This position provides support to the Accounts Receivable department by monitoring, maintaining and reconciling collections, extended internal payment plans and the write off process. This position coordinates with the Accounting Technician to reconcile International Student insurance payments as well as student refunds. This position provides services through telephone, email and in-person interactions to current and prospective students, families, university personnel and external clientele in a welcoming and professional manner. This position serves as back-up cashier to the Cashiers Office and to Head Cashier for bank reconciliation. This position would also run Access queries for the AR department and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
  • Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers and other office equipment such as calculators.
  • Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts.
  • English (verbal and written) communication skills sufficient to communicate appropriately with students, faculty/staff and other customers.
  • Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Skill in customer service sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone and through email and other written correspondence
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus two or more years of post-secondary education in accounting or related field or work experience in accounting or finance.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with Access queries and Excel reports.
  • Experience with university or college accounts receivable, financial aid and student record modules and especially familiar with how they interrelate with each other.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and manage a large volume of work with accuracy and attention to detail.
