Suitable for students with basic foundational knowledge and little to no practical experience, ideal for freshmen or sophomores who have completed only introductory courses.

Job Summary

Assists University Archivist in information services: answers questions regarding available manuscripts, photos, documents, and artifacts in the University Archives.  Further assists with the processing materials in the University Archives, helps with patron research requests using materials in the Archives, and assists with digitization and other assigned projects.

This position starts at the start or before SPRING 2025 .

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instruct patrons on how to use reference sources, library catalogs, and automated information systems.
  • Performs routine cataloging and coding of library materials, arranges and maintains periodicals, prepares volumes for binding, handles interlibrary loan requests, prepares invoices, retrieves information from databases, and supervises support staff.
  •  Locate library materials for patrons, including books, periodicals, tape cassettes, Braille volumes, and pictures.
  • Answer routine inquiries and refer patrons in need of professional assistance to librarians.
  • Maintain records of items received, stored, issued, and returned and file catalog cards according to system used.
  • Ability to work on one project for an extended period of time
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe suite, Database programs)
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Dedication to following specific procedures
