The Office of Protocol and Visits is Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) primary point of contact for planning and hosting visits, meetings, tours, and events for guests spanning various levels of state and federal government, alongside industrial, academic, and military entities. This office also coordinates monthly public community tours of historical sites at the NNSS to allow the public an opportunity to learn how the Site has evolved over the years.
This position will directly support Protocol Officers in conducting tours, visits, meetings, and events as the Visit and Tour Coordinators. This position will be responsible for welcoming and interacting with visitors to NNSS and outlying areas during scheduled visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and interact with participants from high-level management, senior directorate leaders, VIP visitors including officials from various government agencies, academia, and private sector.
- Escort members of the public, employees, and visitors from other national laboratories, plants, and sites on historical public and programmatic tours to National Nuclear Security Administration/Nevada Field Office (NFO) Facilities.
- Narrate facts and details about current mission of NNSS along with providing historical context of the Site through memorization of tour scripts, when applicable.
- Provide tour and visit support such as transportation coordination, organize briefings, and set up/tear down, order, and deliver catered meals.
- Issue temporary access badges for visits.
- Coordinate details associated, as assigned by Protocol Officers, with scheduled visits.
- Drive a 15-passenger van and minibus; assist with coordination of logistics to include water and lunches.
- Review safety and security details for each visit.
- Educate visitors on security and safety requirements and make appropriate notifications if security and safety requirements are not followed.
- Assist in badging process and keep the Site Operations Center informed as required.
- Participate in and embrace MSTS environment, safety, health, and quality initiatives.
- Assist in development of program procedures and materials.
- Assist with maintaining tour inventory such as lanyards, visit videos, collateral, etc.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent training and experience.
- Hospitality, Communications, or Public Speaking experience preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of NNSS and current programs, as well as history of other sites visited on tours, is desirable.
- Must be able to speak knowledgeably of physical locations used for visits.
- Ability to memorize visit/tour script and specific readings and points to assist visitors gain knowledge and skills.
- Ability to communicate with public.
- Time-management skills to ensure visits are executed as planned.
- Must be knowledgeable of current security and safety requirements, to include requirements for escorting foreign citizens.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet customer needs.
- Ability to drive 15-passenger van and 12-passenger minibus.
