Extracurricular Stipend Position: IEP Specialist

Position Title: IEP Specialist

Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Programs  

Work Year: School Year (Outside of Contractual Hours)

Compensation: Stipend $2,500

The IEP Specialist serves as a building-level resource to support the implementation of special education services, compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements, and effective collaboration among staff, families, and service providers. Working outside the regular contract day, this individual assists in coordinating IEP processes, monitoring timelines, supporting special education teachers, and promoting high-quality services for students with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

IEP Coordination and Compliance

- Assist in monitoring annual and reevaluation timelines to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.

- Support special education staff in the preparation and organization of IEP and SAT meetings and documentation.

- Review IEPs for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to submission.

- Assist with scheduling IEP, eligibility, manifestation determination, and reevaluation meetings.

- Monitor progress reporting requirements and communicate upcoming deadlines to staff.

- Serve as a building resource regarding special education procedures and documentation requirements including Medicaid.  

Special Education Program Support

- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, and administrators to support student needs.

- Assist in coordinating service schedules to ensure implementation of IEP services.

- Support staff in understanding accommodations, modifications, supplementary aids, and specially designed instruction.

- Promote consistency in special education practices throughout the building.

- Assist with transition planning and student support processes as appropriate.

Family and Staff Collaboration

- Support communication between families and school personnel regarding IEP processes and special education services.

- Help facilitate collaboration among multidisciplinary team members.

- Provide guidance and resources to staff regarding special education procedures and best practices.

- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new special education teachers regarding district procedures.

Data Collection and Monitoring

- Assist in organizing and maintaining special education records and documentation.

- Monitor progress toward IEP goals and support staff in collecting appropriate data.

- Review service logs and documentation to ensure required services are provided and documented.

- Generate reports and summaries as requested by the building or district administration.

-  Assist in FBA and BIP development  

Professional Leadership

- Attend district special education leadership meetings as requested.

- Communicate updates regarding special education regulations, procedures, and district initiatives.

- Provide feedback to the administration regarding special education needs, resources, and program improvement efforts.

- Support building-level professional learning related to special education and inclusive practices.

 

Required Qualifications

- Valid teaching certification.

- Current Special Education Certification or endorsement.

- Knowledge of IDEA, special education compliance requirements, and IEP development.

- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.

 

Preferred Qualifications

- Five or more years of special education experience.

- Experience serving as an IEP case manager or special education team leader.

- Knowledge of state and district special education data systems.

- Experience facilitating IEP meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

 

Time Expectations

Duties are performed outside of the regular contracted workday and may include:

- Before or after school meetings.

- Summer preparation activities, as approved.

- IEP compliance monitoring and documentation review.

- District special education leadership meetings.
