The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Institute for Health Policy at Duke University (Duke-Margolis) seeks to address critical health policy challenges and improve health, health equity, and the value of health care through practical, innovative, and evidence-based policy solutions. The interdisciplinary nature of Duke-Margolis brings together policy experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and students from across Duke’s schools of medicine, nursing, law, public policy, business, and engineering, and fosters extensive relationships with stakeholders both internal and external. These relationships span foundations, private sector organizations, state and federal governments, and global entities. Occupational Summary

 

Duke-Margolis has an opening for a Policy Research Associate with a focus in health care finance.

 

This position manages the day-to-day execution of complex Duke-Margolis research and policy projects and provides significant subject matter expertise related to private investment in health care and biomedical innovation, business practices across various health care and innovation settings, and health care financing. In this role focused on content and high-level project management, the Policy Research Associate produces high-quality work products independently, demonstrates technical leadership and collaboration with other team members and senior external collaborators, and delegates project activities while consistently meeting internal and contractual deadlines. Primary responsibilities include management of complex research and policy activities to achieve project objectives; researching and analyzing health finance and investment challenges, including conducting background research; conducting quantitative financial analyses to support project goals; drafting written products including summary documents, blog posts, peer-reviewed publications, and policy briefs; effectively engaging policymakers and high-level external stakeholders; and managing the agenda, content, and speakers for Institute events and convenings.

 

Duke-Margolis has offices in both Washington, DC and on Duke's main campus in Durham, NC. The base worksite for this position may be either location. Employees are currently working in a hybrid capacity with a combination of teleworking locally to the base office area (DC/MD/VA or NC, respectively) and in-person team collaboration days.

 

Work Performed

 

Contribute significant subject matter expertise in specialized areas of health policy to the development of project design and approaches to achieve research goals. Specific areas of focus for this role may include analyzing private investment strategies, the implementation of innovative health care models and medical product use, drug pricing, and analysis of the return on investments within the health care setting. Additional areas of relevance in the health policy domain may include but are not limited to collaboration and participation in other Institute priority projects, in such areas as: biomedical innovation, real-world data and evidence, regulatory science, medical device and pharmaceutical policy, healthcare delivery and payment reform, health equity, global health, health systems transformation, and the intersection of scientific and digital advancements with broader US health policy reforms.
