GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

This position is designated as a full-time clinical instructor assignment. The primary responsibility of this position is clinical instruction and supervision of students in healthcare settings. This is a non-didactic faculty position and does not include a regularly assigned classroom teaching load.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • A Master’s Degree with a major in Nursing and a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse.

  • Recent acute care clinical experience, preferably in medical-surgical nursing, is preferred.

  • Must hold an unencumbered registered nurse license to practice in Mississippi.

  • Must satisfy a criminal history background check, drug screen, and other clinical requirements.

  • Teaching experience preferred. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Aptitude

1. Maintain current professional credentials and certifications as required in respective field.

2. Cooperate in the execution of the college, center, division, and program policies, procedures and guidelines.

3. Implement evidence-based clinical teaching strategies that actively engage learners and promote clinical reasoning, judgment, and professional practice.

4. Utilize instructional technology to facilitate learning in laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments.

5. Complete required professional development activities by designated deadlines.

6. Participate in other professional development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual, the health-related profession, and the education profession.

8. Provide direct supervision, instruction, mentoring, and evaluation of nursing students in clinical learning environments to ensure achievement of course outcomes and safe patient care.
