JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

University Health Services (UHS) is seeking to hire a full-time Pharmacist to work in our on-campus Student Health Center (no remote or hybrid options). Our pharmacists provide professional pharmacy services including counseling and education to Penn State students, staff, faculty, and retirees. Pharmacists are expected to follow the governing board laws and regulations as well as University rules and guidance. This position supports UHS, several Penn State departments, and outreach units across the University’s Commonwealth campuses. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carefully review and fill all prescription orders for patients and customers

  • Advise patient of Drug Utilization Review (DUR), which includes appropriate dosing, and duration of use. drug interactions, allergy warnings, and drug compatibility

  • Engage in quality assurance activities, reviewing orders for accuracy of input as well as the physical filling of all prescriptions

  • Evaluate daily business; consider staffing levels and other factors to maintain efficient operations

  • Direct workflow; assign tasks for technical staff and customer service representatives

  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner with co-workers, chief pharmacist, prescribers, nurses, other healthcare professionals, and entities

  • Actively plan, participate, and contribute professional insight in weekly staff meetings

  • Ensure compliance obligations are met in all aspects of business

  • Maintain required professional licensure with the PA State Board of Pharmacy, including the completion of continuing education hours and training

  • Participate in all pharmacy inventory preparation and execution; help to prepare the pharmacy for accreditation survey

  • Maintain accurate records of controlled substance and narcotic inventory and appropriately return expired or unsalable controlled substances to Inmar for credit and proper destruction

  • Coordinate the closing process and ensure all work is completed at the end of the day; prepare the pharmacy for the following days' business and verify the physical security of the pharmacy at closing

  • Participate in discussions, planning, and execution of pharmacy marketing

  • Represent the Pharmacy and the department and attend community outreach events

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's degree plus six years of relevant experience

  • Licensed as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
