Certified Histotechnician, First Shift, Pathology Department
UC Health is hiring a full-time Histotechnician for the pathology department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The Histotechnician performs routine histopathological tests in a clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.

Job Responsibilities
- Engages in population appropriate communication.
- Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
- Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
- Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
- Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
- Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
- Performs routine paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Prepares equipment and reagents for processing, embedding, microtome cutting and mounting of tissue
- Performs routine and special staining techniques.
- Labels, files, discards and maintains records of tissue samples of containers, tissue processing cassettes, final paraffin bloods and slides.
- Labels and records slides of specimens received, provides specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist.
- Obtains and logs specimens from the operating rooms and other areas as required.
- Performs frozen cytostat sectioning.
- Performs various Quality Control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Utilizes various hospital information systems and software, including Electronic Medical Records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum Required: Associate's degree
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
- Preferred: One year experience
- Required: ASCP Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician required.
