Consultant and Compliance Specialist - Safe From Harm Program

About the role

Job Objective: This position coordinates Division implementation and management of the Safe From Harm (SFH) program in the areas of prevention, incident response, training, and compliance.

 

Essential Functions:

Consultation: Incident Prevention & Management

  1. Respond to all SFH related correspondence for the Division as the first point of contact for Safe From Harm related inquires
  2. Ensure SFH standards are integrated into the screening and selection processes required of employees and volunteers
  3. Share resources and best practices with applicable departments at the Division and field program levels regarding practical ways SFH initiatives may be applied during program development and implementation
  4. Assist the Division Property Dept. and Divisional Mission & Program Council in the strategic review of property plans/schematics to assess potential safety concerns of new property designs or remodels; take part in on-site physical property reviews as assigned and provide verbal and/or written feedback following assessment
  5. Review all SFH incident reports; provide consultative responses for lower-level incidents not under privileged investigation by THQ Legal Dept
  6. As directed by THQ SFH, serve on the Territorial SFH incident response team to assist in gathering follow up information for incidents
  7. Maintain a confidential record keeping system for incident reports and related correspondence
  8. Assist units as needed in the preparation and completion of Personal Safety and Risk Reduction Plans (PSRRP), or for those who do not meet the criteria of the PSRRP, a written plan outlining specific boundaries for participation
  9. Chair and prepare the agenda for a Division Safe From Harm Committee of applicable departments and representatives; consult on efforts to meet and maintain Salvation Army US National Standards for Child & Vulnerable Adult Protection and Salvation Army International Child Protection Policy; develop policies or program guidelines as necessary to meet standards; provide a sanitized update of incidents within the Division to troubleshoot prevention measures; review Program Safety Audits and the progress of any SFH Action Plans derived as a result of a Territorial and/or Division lead SFH review of a program or unit
  10. Participate in periodic SFH consult calls directed by THQ SFH to share Division progress with SFH and receive insights or direction from the Territorial SFH Program Director
  11. Contribute as a member of the Territorial SFH Committee as requested

 

Compliance:

  1. Collaborate with applicable departments to assist in monitoring and enforcing all SFH policies; assist in developing and implementing action plans to compliance deficiencies discovered during audit processes
  2. Coordinate the completion and collection of Program Safety Audits on an every-other-year basis; review and provide feedback to field units, establish action plans as necessary
  3. Conduct SFH site & program assessments of field units; review the Program Safety Audit, progress towards best practices, and note observations of the unit’s monitoring and supervision practices and child & vulnerable adult safety policies/procedures/handbooks; provide units with customized consultation for specific programs and property
  4. Monitor and manage compliance of follow through when CPS/APS reporting is recommended or other actions are recommended as a result of an incident; organize and maintain a bring-up system for this follow up
  5. Manage the upkeep and compliance of active Personal Safety and Risk Reduction Plans; maintain a confidential record-keeping system for this process
  6. Prepare necessary SFH related information and assist in coordinating meetings and room arrangements for Territorial SFH Compliance Reviews and SFH related information that may be requested by the Territorial Audit Department
  7. Periodically participate on a Territorial SFH Review Team and/or assigned Division Review Team
  8. Ensure compliance with education requirements for all applicable positions and employees

 

Training:

  • Coordinate SFH training sessions for the Division, keeping a Divisional/Command calendar of SFH training opportunities offered by SFH Trainers
  • Keep statistical data on SFH Trainings
  • Serve as the Division SFH Trainer Maker, teaching the SFH Train-the-Trainer
