About the role

Department: UHC: Psychiatry Resident Program

Job Summary: The Special Assistant to the Chair maintains the daily activities of the Chair and the General Medicine department, exercising independent judgment.  Plans, coordinates, and performs/oversees special projects.  Facilitates communication with other members of the department and the Chair.  Provides pertinent information, data collection, analysis, and report/presentation preparation.   Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor Degree required. Three years Administrative experience in healthcare environment required. Five additional years of experience required in lieu of degree. 

Knowledge and Skills: 1. Proficient in Windows applications and word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics and online calendar scheduling software.  Able to take and transcribe dictation; keyboard 60 wpm with minimal errors; familiarity with operation of standard office equipment, including but not limited to fax, calculator, copier and multiple-line phone. 2. Interpersonal Skills:  Ability to work well with many levels of people in a professional and diplomatic manner and make people feel at ease.  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under stress and deal with difficult, sometimes irate, individuals; deal with conflict and criticism objectively and professionally and have exceptional telephone and personal communication skills. 3. Essential Physical Requirements:    Physical demands essential to this position are attached. 4. Essential Mental Abilities:   Ability to exercise independent judgment in sensitive and confidential matters.   Works without direct supervision.  Must be a self-starter who perceives a need and takes initiative to accomplish tasks.  Excellent oral and written communication skills - high proficiency in grammar; express thoughts clearly and concisely; proofread for context and content accuracy.  Able to follow complex instructions. 5. Essential Sensory Requirements:    Recognize faces, ability to hear on the phone/in person/in the environment; visual and hearing acuity to proficiently perform essential duties.
