Missionary: Registered Nurse for Oasis Home

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse is responsible to provide high-quality nursing care for Kids Alive children and staff at the Oasis Home site in Guatemala. They do so in a compassionate, humble manner and ultimately reflects the love of Jesus. They create a nurturing environment while following local and international health and safety guidelines faithfully and consistently to promote each child’s well-being. All the young girls at Oasis Home are victims of sexual violence and typically come from difficult situations, sometimes with poor nutrition and ongoing health concerns. Along with national coworkers, including a pediatrician on-staff, the Registered Nurse is part of a team which works to provide a safe environment in which the children can learn and grow toward restoration. The Registered Nurse position will report to the Director of Residential at Oasis and collaborate daily with the staff pediatrician.
Essential Duties:
• Monitor each child’s condition and assess his or her needs to provide the best possible care and advice.
• Observe and interpret each child’s symptoms and communicate them to other medical professionals.
• Collaborate with social workers, psychologists, residential coordinator, and medical professionals to devise individualized care plans for the children.
• Perform routine procedures (measuring heights and weights, administering vaccines, etc.) and maintain consistently updated medical records.
• Collaborate with medical professionals to provide appropriate treatments and medications as needed and provide training and support to ensure that all medications are correctly administered and documented by direct care providers.
• Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, etc.).
• Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for child within a residential setting.
• Expand knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences etc.
• Accompany and advocate for children in their medical appointments and procedures.
• Monitor pregnant adolescents and provide support and education for births.
• Collaborate with residential and administrative team to provide health related education for children and staff.
• Update, manage, and ensure that all patient records are current, organized, and easy to access for staff
• Plan and facilitate health workshops with Kids Alive Guatemala staff and girls in collaboration with staff pediatrician
• Take children to external medical consultations and drive a vehicle for various off-campus medical needs and activities

Education & Experience Requirements:
• Graduate of Nursing school with valid diploma
• Valid Registered Nurse Licensure
• Proven experience as a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of professional work experience
• Certified in BLS and First Aid
• Drivers license
• Experience working and communicating cross-culturally
Skills & Knowledge Required:
• Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
• Excellent knowledge of emergency care
• Mature and humble professional who can submit to national leadership
• Good understanding of trauma-informed care within the healthcare setting and effects of trauma on physical health
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to always follow them
• Ability to create a caring, compassionate relationship with the patients
• Sensitive to needs of children
• An advocate for child safeguarding and protection measures
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
• Patient with excellent problem-solving skills
• Aptitude in multitasking and time-management
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
• Adaptable to frequent changes and ability to manage a high-stress environment
• Proficiency in Spanish (Language school training will be required if the candidate has not yet learned Spanish)
