The Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare (SSW) invites applications for one Full Time Clinical Assistant Professor to join our faculty and serve as Coordinator of the Online MSW Program Option.
Position Information
Clinical Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026 or sooner. This is a 12-month appointment.

The School of Social Welfare (SSW) is one of five Health Sciences Schools located within a rich interdisciplinary environment. Numerous opportunities exist for collaborative research and interprofessional training across disciplines on campus and beyond. The Health Sciences Center is located on the Stony Brook Campus alongside Stony Brook University Hospital, the Cancer Center, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, and the Long Island State Veterans Home. In New York City, SBU is the anchor institution for the development of a world-leading climate solutions center on Governor’s Island, the New York Climate Exchange. The SSW offers Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), Master of Social Work (MSW), and PhD in Social Work degree programs, as well as multiple dual degree program options. The SSW has an extension education center in Manhattan, through which students can take MSW program coursework. The SSW is home to a collegial academic community committed to building a more equitable society based on the values of human dignity, inclusiveness, diversity, equality, and economic, environmental, racial, and social justice. The school’s interdisciplinary research involves organizational partnerships from a wide variety of sectors (from community-based organizations to departments of health and social services) and academic disciplines (ranging from medicine and engineering to humanities).
The SSW’s distinguished faculty include educators and researchers whose areas of expertise span a wide range of practice-oriented and policy-relevant areas including: disability justice; gender equality; intervention research; aging; intimate partner violence; the social determinants of health and mental health; structural racism; environmental justice; financial well-being; education; immigration, behavioral health and addictions; among other areas. The SSW has an enrollment of approximately 700 students in its BSW, MSW, and PhD programs with curricula grounded in a student-centered and evidence-informed pedagogy. As a School that offers professional degrees, we are committed to ensuring our curriculum and research efforts map to the most pressing, current, and emergent issues in our society. We are seeking to hire a Clinical Assistant professor to join our vibrant and engaged community, who will also serve as Coordinator of our Online MSW program option. Ideal candidates for this position will bring experience in providing and/or administering online education; a background of post-MSW practice experience; a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and equity in social work education; and an inclusive, active, student-centered orientation to their approach to teaching and mentoring future social workers.

Qualifications
We are particularly interested in applicants with a commitment to work in an interdisciplinary academic environment and who illustrate a translational commitment to inclusion, equity, diversity, and social, gender, environmental, racial and economic justice.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have an LMSW, a minimum of five years post-masters social work practice experience, and a minimum of two years of relevant social work teaching experience.
