What you’ll need to succeed as a Shop Supervisor at XPO

 

Minimum qualifications:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • 2 years of fleet maintenance or management experience
  • A valid driver’s license

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Associate degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • Current CDL
  • Previous or current ASE Certifications
  • 2 years leadership experience
  • Less-than-Truckload (LTL) industry experience
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively organize and present information; ability to lead and motivate others
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

This job requires the ability to:

  • Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights up to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 75 lbs. occasionally
  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
  • Work outside in inclement weather
  • Other duties as required

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Supervise maintenance employees and contract workers, including but not limited to hiring, scheduling, work assignments, and recommending promotions and terminations.
  • Observe, mentor, develop and review the performance and progress of mechanics and all shop employees.
  • Oversee routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 7 and 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturers and company schedules.
  • Oversee routine maintenance functions to ensure equipment proficiency and the highest productivity levels; ensure all work orders, including commercial work orders, are closed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation.
  • Minimize the time that equipment is out of service.
  • Monitor the sale and disposition of retired and scrapped equipment
  • Manage shop cost and supply on parts in tracking database system
  • Communicate and coordinate with service center on units needing repair and which parts are needed
  • Inventory control which includes shop cycle counts, maintaining proper inventory on hand, processing core refunds to ensure core credits, and ordering parts
  • Monitor various reports to ensure compliance
  • Support the leadership overseeing equipment maintenance and out-of-service equipment at outlying service centers supported by the shop
  • Facilitate the annual job selection/shift bid (JSP) process for shop employees
  • Review and analyze trends in parts utilization, gains, shortages, usage, uptime, and non-movement, in a way that ensures the highest efficiency and productivity of the shop
  • Ensure company procedures, DOT policies and other required standard work instructions are followed by all shop employees
