The Pharmacy Manager  is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the medically integrated dispensary under the supervision of a physician. This role involves managing the Pharmacy team (Clinical Pharmacy Generalist and Pharmacy Technician), coordinating with healthcare providers, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The Pharmacy Manager focuses on enhancing the medication therapy management process, improving patient outcomes and experience, and optimizing  drug margins. Additionally, as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, the Pharmacy Manager serves as the primary pharmacy contact for providers, offering   clinical support and information related to drug interactions, alternative drug therapies, dose adjustments, and efficacy.


Brief Description of Duties: 


  • Oversee the operations of the dispensary under the supervision of a physician, ensuring efficiency and  accuracy in dispensing of medications.
  • Manage inventory to ensure the availability of necessary medications while minimizing waste.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain quality and safety in all dispensary operations.
  • Serve as the primary pharmacy  contact for providers, offering clinical support and information related to drug interactions, alternative drug therapies, dose adjustments, and efficacy.
  • Collaborate with providers to optimize patient medication regimens.
  • Conduct medication therapy management, including reviewing patient profiles for drug interactions, allergies, and therapeutic duplications.
  • Provide patient counseling on proper medication usage, potential side effects, and safe and effective drug use.
  • Conduct drug utilization reviews      to prevent drug interactions, contraindications, and other issues affecting patient health.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise dispensary staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development under physician oversight.
  • Schedule and assign duties to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow within the dispensary.
  • Conduct performance evaluations  and provide feedback to staff to support their growth and development.
  • Ensure compliance with all  federal, state, and local regulations related to the operation of a  medically integrated dispensary, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in relevant laws.
  • Implement and enforce policies  and procedures to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.  
  • Ensure all dispensing practices  comply with regulations, maintain proper storage conditions for medications, and manage inventory securely.
  • Manage medication recalls, monitor inventory for expirations, and coordinate proper disposal of expired or unused medications.
  • Monitor and analyze dispensary  operations and patient care metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead quality improvement   initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, reducing medication errors, and improving service delivery.
  • Conduct thorough prescription audits and perform claim reconciliations for third-party payments using  software like PioneerRx
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison between the  dispensary, medical staff, and other departments to facilitate integrated  care and improve patient outcomes, with oversight from the supervising  physician.
  • Address patient and provider inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Optimize drug margins by  implementing timely regimen adjustments to ensure the utilization of  cost-effective drugs.
  • Lead periodic business reviews  with the drug distribution vendor to assess vendor performance and ensure  that the vendor meets the contractual commitments and business needs.
  • Manage cash register operations, document sales, and provide biweekly cash out reports.
  • Deposit cash and checks off-site, managing banking for the pharmacy.
  • Generate end-of-month reports,  including inventory data, and coordinate with finance.
  • Handle insurance claims and  coordinate for medications dispensed in-office, ensuring accurate billing and patient understanding of their coverage.
  • Act as a liaison between  pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff to educate health professionals on current drug-related procedures, policies, guidelines, and pathways.
