Who will you be working with?
You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions and lasting value to our customers and the communities they serve.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will oversee the daily operations of the engineering team. This role involves managing engineering projects, ensuring timely completion, and maintaining high-quality standards. The Engineering Supervisor will work closely with the Product Line Manager to align engineering activities with company goals and customer requirements.
What do we want to know about you?
You may be a good fit if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on door systems preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Understanding of mechanical design, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide clear direction and constructive feedback.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently.
What will your typical day look like?
- Lead and mentor a team of Applications Engineers.
- Provide guidance and support to engineering staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Oversee the design and development of door systems.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with the Engineer Product Line Manager to align project goals with company objectives.
- Maintain project schedules and enforce the use of project management tools.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during the design and installation process.
- Work closely with other departments, including Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Service, to address engineering-related issues.
- Participate in daily production meetings and coordinate with the engineering team to address actions identified on the engineering production board.
- Interface with overseas partners for international projects and applications.
- Track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to engineering and project management.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
What about the physical demands of the job?
- Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove office
- Occasional visits to manufacturing locations at Buffalo Grove IL and San Fernando CA.
- Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional travel (15%) to customer sites may require standing, walking, and navigating transportation facilities.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
