About the role

Reporting to the Division Administrator, the Grants and Contracts Manager is responsible for pre- and post-award management of the grant portfolio for the Division of Nephrology and the Translational Transplant Research Center (TTRC). The Grants and Contracts Manager will work directly with Principal Investigators (PIs) in submission of grant applications. S/he will also partner with the Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist on responsibilities which include budget development, budget variance reporting and reconciliation, subcontract management, reports to sponsors, compliance, and daily administrative and operational requirements of assigned grants and contracts.  

  • Collaborative Finance Partner: Liaison with faculty and extramural funding agencies, along with the ISMMS Grants & Contracts Office, Sponsored Projects Administration, and interdepartmental grants administrators
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting: Present financial information and recommendations through data analysis and reporting in the development and maintenance of budgets; Identify funding issues and develop appropriate solutions; Analyze data and develop analytical reports for PIs (e.g. trend analysis, forecast scenarios, projections, and variance analyses
  • Proposal Development: Review proposals and budgets for grant and contract submissions; Advise PIs of funding opportunities
  • Portfolio Management: Plan, organize and prioritize actions across multiple awards; Counsel PIs on financial issues and recommend alternative spending strategies; Manage renewals, extensions and closeouts
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Responsible for providing appropriate guidance on compliance matters during management of portfolio and collaborates with account holders to maintain such compliance; Review, interpret and effectively apply sponsor policies on a variety of topics; ensure compliance with Institutional policies and procedures
  • Special Projects: Implements and supports special projects for the Division and TTRC as needed, along with other relevant duties as assigned

Education: 

  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Microsoft Word and Excel Intermediate; InfoEd; NIH eRA Commons preferred 

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in grants and contracts management, preferably in academic medical centers or higher education in general
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of grants, contracts, and applications; familiarity with electronic research administration requirements from a variety of sponsoring agencies such as federal, state, local, etc.
