A Brief Overview
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, and in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, the Emergency Lead Technician provides basic direct and indirect care as a member of the patient care team. The direct patient care activities are related to the following: measuring, recording and reporting patient information, provision of assistance with activities of daily living, and simple treatments and procedures. Also, the Emergency Lead Technician assists in maintaining the patient and unit environment in a clean, orderly condition.
What you will do
Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
Accurately observes, records and reports patient information. Legibly and accurately documents care provided.
Adheres to the standards of nursing care and the policies and procedures of the Hospital and Nursing Department. Carries out all responsibilities following Hospital safety guidelines for self, patient, visitors, and employees.
Assists patients with and/or provides efficient care related to activities of daily living.
Completes orientation program and participates in learning activities to maintain and improve knowledge and skills.
Contributes positively to the unit, department and hospital goals.
Performs duties as assigned to facilitate a clean, safe, orderly unit and patient care environment.
Performs routine patient care under the direction and supervision of an RN. With Patient Care Manager approval, may perform specific skills after documented instruction.
Recognizes and addresses age-appropriate and cultural needs when caring for patients. Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
Acts as a resource to staff, managers, and physicians related to ED support services.
Assisting in locating items and supply management.
Providing training and feedback in regards to job and skill performance.
Sets an example of how the Hospital Technician-Emergency Department performs their job.
Assigns organizes and coordinates the daily activities of the Hospital Technician-Emergency Department including assisting the Patient Care Manager with staff scheduling.
Monitors Hospital Technician-Emergency Department’s job performance and coaches as needed to assure standards are being followed.
Must fulfill all obligations and essential duties of the Hospital Technician-Emergency Department.
Provides input related to staff performance to assist the Patient Care Manager in writing evaluations.
Promotes a positive work environment by practicing good communication, diversity awareness and teamwork.
Prepares assigned shift work schedule and makes changes as necessary to meet the needs of the department.
Practices time management. Maintains professional behavior and appearance.
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Satisfactory completion of an Emergency Technician Training program or equivalent
Experience Qualifications
Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to problem-solve effectively using appropriate resources. Is productive in workflow, skills, and organization
Ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of the individual taking into consideration age, culture, and developmental issues
Ability to provide care as needed and as described in the department's policies and procedures
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the job
Ability to work in a fast paced environment with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds
Ability to perform work-lead responsibilities such as training and orienting new employees, assigning and reviewing work for completeness and accuracy, scheduling work, and other coordinating and support duties for a supervisor/manager
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks during time of stress
