JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position works closely with the Athletic Director to oversee all organizational and athletic training aspects of the collegiate teams. Responsibilities include developing, implementing and modifying athletic training policies and procedures. Instruct student-athletes on injury care, prevention and rehabilitation methods for existing injuries. Establish and maintain a relationship with a local physician to ensure timely care for athlete’s needs. Work flexible and fluctuating hours and responsibilities across various functional areas within the institution as required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement athletic training services within the Indian River State College athletic department. 
  • Represent the college at State, regional, and national meetings.
  • Manage initial athletic clearance, including medical forms, insurance information and pre-participation physicals prior to athlete being allowed to participate with his/her athletic team.
  • Educate student -athletes on injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation and appropriate physician referrals.
  • Instruct student athletes on injury prevention and on rehabilitative methodologies.
  • Provide treatment and apply therapeutic modalities, taping, bracing, and splinting/casting.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with orthopedic and general practice physicians to enhance medical care for student-athletes.
  • Work under the direction of the supervising physician.
  • Schedule and accompany student-athletes to medical appointments as needed.
  • Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding student-athlete injury and participation status.
