Description
Shive-Hattery has an immediate opening in our Des Moines area office location for an experienced (5-10 years) building envelope design professional in our fast-growing Building Envelope Studio.
Position: Under the direction of the Studio Leader, this Design Professional position, performs a variety of duties associated with support of architectural design expertise on a variety of Public / Government, Higher Education, Healthcare, K-12 Education, Insurance, Industrial and Commercial Projects. This position involves adapting design knowledge-based experiences with a focus on the exterior building envelope in support of team members around the company. Candidate should possess an ability to adapt to different delivery methods required by our clients and production team members.
Expectations of role: Timely, professional, and accurate production of design documents associated with the delivery of architectural design services for new and existing building projects. This position requires working closely with project leadership to develop and deliver projects. It requires communication skills with individuals within the organization with responsibility for acting independently on assigned tasks but in conjunction with the project’s objectives.
Skills and Knowledge: Applicant is required to have a comprehensive working knowledge of architecture and the technology of buildings. Applicant should be able to manage the delivery of projects using a variety of computer software programs such as Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, and should be able to produce written documentation and correspondence with clients. Applicant needs to demonstrate the ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to be courteous with tact necessary to effectively work with others and using good communication and human relation skills is a strong requirement. Applicant needs to demonstrate the ability to document site conditions and observations using written documentation and mobile apps. Applicant should demonstrate the desire and willingness to learn new information through one-on-one training along with written resources to develop into a skilled building envelope consultant.
Requirements
Education: Accredited programs in Building Technology, Construction Management or Architectural Drafting are deemed essential backgrounds for this role. A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Construction Engineering is preferred, but not required. An ability or desire to obtain a Registered Roofing Observer and/or Registered Roofing Consultant credential is desired.
Minimum Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to travel for work related activities is required.
A large portion of the day is spent on project sites. The physical demands include climbing ladders and walking building and roof perimeters. Applicant may encounter exposure to electrical equipment, cold, heat, heights, skin irritants, lung irritants, loud noises and difficult or unusual site surfaces. Risk from these exposures is minimized by strict adherence to Company and OSHA safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures.
Requirements:
- Design, construction, maintenance and repair of roof systems
- Experience in the design, construction, maintenance and repair of building envelopes preferred
- Ability to become registered as design professional (Architect, Engineer or RRO/RRC)
