College of Engineering and Information Technology, Shared Services Center (COEIT SSC)

The COEIT SSC supports the college by providing services related to payroll, procurement, finance and grants administration.

Position Overview:

This position is part of the College’s Shared Services Center, within the Pre-Award Team. Reporting to the Pre-award team leader, the role is primarily responsible for providing administrative and budget support for grant proposal submissions. The position collaborates with faculty to create, collect, review, upload, and transmit the documents required to route proposal requests for new research funding. This work involves coordination with various departments across campus, partner institutions at other universities, external contractors, and program sponsors at federal, state, and private agencies.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the proposal development and routing process in the college’s sponsored research unit within shared services.  Tasks include: Budget Development, RFP review, PI interface, Kuali data input and routing after reviewed by sponsored research lead or Sr. Specialist of sponsored research, RT pre-award queue management.
  • Provides full-service administrative support for faculty who are submitting proposals for grant funding.  Liaison on behalf of faculty with UMBC departments, and individuals outside of UMBC necessary for a successful submission.
  • Ensures compliance and Policy Adherence
  • Provides back-up support to team leader, post-award team, and process improvement
  • Performs ad hoc analysis as requested by leadership and/or PIs and other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business administration, accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, proposal development, or sponsored programs management.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal
    regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200), state, and university policies related to sponsored research.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Professional certification such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA), or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing and reviewing complex, multi-PI or multi-institution proposals, knowledge of NIH, NSF, DOE, DoD, and other major federal sponsor proposals, demonstrated success in process improvement, training, or mentoring within research administration.
