Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Translational Biomedical Sciences

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position in translational biomedical science. The postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by Dr. Ki Goosens, Associate Professor of Medicine in Psychiatry and Pharmacological Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, New York, NY, USA. The Goosens Laboratory is a group that studies how hormones contribute to chronic disease burden in human participants and animal models of disease. This Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position will focus on how hypothalamic and pituitary hormones may contribute to disease in mouse models of Down Syndrome. The Postdoctoral trainee will study multiple organ systems (brain, eye, bone, adipose) and work with other trainees (graduate, undergraduate or high school students) to collect, analyze and interpret data. The Postdoctoral trainee will receive strong mentorship and be expected to develop and annually re-assess a career development plan to promote independence and successful transition to an independent career in science.
This position is funded through a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be encouraged to contribute to additional projects in the lab and develop an independent line of research. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be expected to present their work on a regular basis at local events at Sinai and at conferences.
Candidate requirements include:
· PhD or MD-PhD in Neuroscience, or a related discipline in the biomedical sciences
· Strong background in statistics and data analysis
· Experience breeding transgenic mouse lines and handling rodents
· Prior history of sustained research productivity
· Experience working in at least one of the organ systems of interest
· Two or fewer years of previous postdoctoral training
Desired qualifications include:
· Prior work in mouse models of Down Syndrome, hypothalamus or pituitary, or the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s Disease
Experience with immunostaining, Western blot, ELISA, and confocal microscopy
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Initiative, troubleshooting ability, ability to lead a small team
· Interest in work that can be translated to human participants
