Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Sr Principal Semiconductor Equipment Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland – where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. 

Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide, Carbon Nanotubes) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems. Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly. 

What you'll get to do:

The Sr Principal Semiconductor Equipment Engineer will lead and manage engineering projects such as continuous improvement with an emphasis on tool uptime and availability, vendor management, equipment layout, cleanroom construction and installation of semiconductor equipment at Northrop Grumman's semiconductor foundry in Baltimore with an emphasis on Wet Processing. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA): Utilize RCCA techniques to systematically investigate equipment issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions for effective issue resolution and prevention.

  • Equipment Reliability and Performance: Apply reliability engineering principles to enhance equipment dependability and performance, monitoring metrics and analyzing data for proactive improvements.

  • Equipment Maintenance and Optimization: Develop preventive maintenance schedules, optimize processes, and manage spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.

  • Continuous Improvement: Implement lean and Six Sigma methodologies for continuous improvement.

  • Tool Documentation Repositories: Maintain tool documentation repositories for easy access to manuals and troubleshooting guides.

  • Training and Support: Offer training and support to operators, ensuring optimal equipment performance.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with stakeholders for seamless integration and communicate effectively for efficient maintenance and improvement processes.

Minimal travel - one to three short trips per year.

Basic Qualifications: 

- Bachelors in Science and 8 years of relevant experience or Master's degree and 6 years relevant experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

- Experience working with semiconductor fabrication equipment.

- Experience with fab facility infrastructure, and maintenance.  

- Demonstrated ability to work with cross organizational teams such as engineering, line maintenance and building maintenance. 

- Experience with Wet Clean/Wet Etch Semiconductor Production Equipment.

- Experience with Root Cause Analysis/Structure
