Summary

 

The Cost Accountant is responsible for a variety of duties ranging from transactional tasks to period-end analytics.  Responsibilities include standard cost control, burden rate administration, variance analysis, inventory count support, month-end accruals, and regular GL reconciliations.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

 

Cost Management:

• Review and analyze standard costs assigned to manufactured assemblies and purchased components
• Ensure integrity of the rolled-up costs and overall standard costs based on material, labor, and material overheads
• Work with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Finance teams to identify root causes of standard costs issues and develop solutions
• Monitor and analyze Cost of Goods Sold financial performance, providing reports and recommendations to management
• Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts monthly

 

Other: 

• Assist with month-end closing
• Provide supporting documentation for audits
• Other ad-hoc analysis or projects as required

• Employ a high degree of professionalism when working with all customers/vendors/coworkers
• Make recommendations for improved efficiency in workflow where needed

 

Technical Knowledge

 

• Proficient in accounting software – experience with Syspro7 an asset
• Excellent math and analytical skills
• Effective communication skills
• PC proficiency - Word, Excel, Outlook

 

Professional Development

 

• Continuously update knowledge and skills for successful job performance
• Participate in training programs
• Seek additional educational courses

 

Education / Certifications

 

• Cost accounting experience within a complex manufacturing environment with large amount of part numbers and standard cost changes
• Advanced Excel user
• CPA student is desirable
• Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPivot) and other office software
