Job Description

The Welding Subject Matter Expert (SME) leads the management and development of the global Community of Practice (CoP) within the discipline of welding including conventional welding of superalloys, metallurgical understanding, robotic and auto welding with knowledge of welding equipment and automation technologies with electron beam welding experience a plus. Provides both technical and managerial oversight across the technical enterprise working with the local site leadership, regional management and global functional leadership teams. Ensuring welding technical bench strength exists at all levels, supporting the development of technology focused projects through to the production phase and leveraging technical knowledge in one or more areas.  Lead and develop solutions, integrating and collating technical expertise, robust problem-solving methodologies and fostering a culture of innovation improving the performance of Chromalloy. Develop a global network of like-minded experts supporting the organization to deliver best practice solutions, technical training and rapid problem resolution.

This position can be located in Orangeburg, New York, Windsor, Connecticut, Newnan, Georgia or Oldsmar, Florida.

Qualifications

Critical Success Factors

  • Previous experience of guiding a distributed technical team of 10+ years with demonstrated organizational competencies and ability to continually improve process maturity.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver projects while interfacing effectively with stakeholders and other functions within a matrix organizational structure.
  • Proven experience of delivery through process design, best practices, and technology projects of at least $1 Million.
  • Proven experience of problem solving both technical and production issues to resolution.
  • Typically, minimum 10 years’ experience in Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine superalloy welding (design, manufacture, or repair), achieving progressively increasing responsibility and results.

Leadership

 

  • Lead/co-lead/participates in welding Community of Practice
  • Lead technology development projects to full production capability
  • Leadership role model in terms of professional behaviors and personal accountability.
  • Adhere to and lead by example, all Company environmental, health and safety (EH&S) policies.
  • Provide strategic planning leadership by setting technology project priorities based upon company goals, anticipated industry trends, and emerging technology.
  • Engage with organizations outside of Chromalloy to provide a leadership presence at universities and governing bodies.

Technology Development

  • Participates in technical discussions with key customers and related program office
  • Use Management Operating System tools to monitor integration of CoP technology into production processes.
  • Partner with manufacturing operations across the organization ensuring effective implementation of technology projects is accomplished.
  • Support implementation of new technologies into the operational environment that effectively drive improvements in business metrics.
  • Provide accurate reports/presentations to management pertaining to impact of technology projects.
  • Present outcome of projects/technologies to internal and external customers.

Process Optimization

  • Continually review and improve welding engineering processes.
  • Promote Operational Excellence through utilization of a robust problem-solving methodology and technical expertise. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment by enforcing and supporting 5S principles.
  • Adhere to and promote Corporate Code of Ethical Standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Company IPM/QPM and ISO-9000 quality requirements.
  • Ensure management compliance with MOS Principals.
