About the Team and our Scope
At L&H Solutions, we build and commercialize cloud-native (Azure-based) SaaS/PaaS solutions for Swiss Re Life & Health insurance clients. We offer a portfolio of over six products, including established offerings like Magnum with over 60 active clients worldwide, and innovative products such as UW Ease. We are a SW house within Swiss Re.
Our team consists of more than 150 technical professionals with multidisciplinary skills, located in multiple countries, working on these multi-regional, highly available solutions.
About the Role
As an NFR Architect, you will define, design, and govern the implementation of Non-Functional Requirements across Swiss Re’s Life & Health digital ecosystem. You will collaborate with solution architects, engineering leads, and DevOps teams to translate enterprise standards into measurable system attributes such as performance, resilience, observability, and security.
In addition to NFR governance, you will be responsible for technology stewardship — proactively identifying, planning, and executing framework and library upgrades, security remediations, and platform migrations to ensure systems remain modern, compliant, and secure.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Define and maintain the product-wide NFR framework, including principles, metrics, and design patterns for delivery teams.
- Collaborate with solution architects, product owners, and engineering leads to capture, validate, and implement NFRs throughout the SDLC.
- Conduct architecture and performance reviews to validate compliance with scalability, reliability, and resilience objectives.
- Develop and maintain reference architectures, reusable blueprints, and NFR patterns that promote consistency across solutions.
- Partner with security, infrastructure, and SRE teams to align architecture with enterprise policies and operational best practices.
- Champion the integration of automated performance, resilience, and security testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead framework and library lifecycle management, including:
- Assessing and planning upgrades, migrations, and deprecations for technologies such as Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Java SDKs, and related open-source components.
- Coordinating security patching and remediation to address vulnerabilities (CVEs) in underlying frameworks and dependencies.
- Collaborating with platform teams to ensure compatibility with evolving Azure, containerization, and DevOps toolchains.
- Support technology evaluations and architecture decisions to optimize for performance, cost, and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams on NFR and architecture best practices.
- Continuously track and evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools related to SRE, observability, and cloud-native engineering.
Key NFR Domains

- Availability & Resilience: Architect for fault tolerance, redundancy, and disaster recovery.
- Security & Compliance: Enforce secure coding practices, vulnerability management, and regulatory alignment.
- Maintainability & Operability: Define observability standards for logging, metrics, and alerting.
