The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part Time Student Technical Product Engineering for John Deere located in Ames, IA, you will...
- Work within the Crop Care Product Engineering organization. Crop Care is made up of the Tillage, Seeding, and Sprayer product lines. Product Engineering roles include Product Design, Product Verification and Validation, Reliability, Product Test, and Software Verification.
- Work at John Deere JDTIC Spray Lab in Ames, IA but may include project work in Ankeny, IA.
- Must be able to commute to the work location daily.
- Minimum 12 - 20 hours/week during the academic year.
- Maximum 40 hours/week during the summer.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Effective communication skills both oral and written.
This position is not available to students on immigration visas.
What Skills You Need
- Effectively communicate and work in a team environment
- Propose or evaluate solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance.
- Test design concepts in lab tests or in field environments on prototype equipment
- Apply technical knowledge to identify and resolve design weaknesses
- Validate offboard data to ensure data quality
- Pursuing Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University; other engineering fields may apply.
- Must be registered as a full-time student at Iowa State University.
- Graduation date of May 2026 or later.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Knowledge or work experience in production agriculture (specifically tillage, planters, and sprayers).
- Experience in product engineering (product design, product testing, software testing).
- Create design concepts in 3D CAD modeling applications (Creo, ProE).
- Develop dynamic performance specifications using simulation. (MATLAB, Simscape, Simulink)
- Programming experience (MATLAB, C++, Python, Visual Basic, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
