Occupational Therapists are SSP's (Specialized Service Providers) that support students with disabilities through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. They provide motor assessment as well as direct and indirect services to address decreased functional motor skills in order to maximize educational opportunities for students.

What You'll Do:
  • Evaluates students, identifies and documents goals, and participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 meetings, providing direct and indirect occupational therapy services as directed.
  • Coordinates and communicates with teachers, staff, and parent(s) about student services and strategies that address areas such as but not limited to independent daily living skills, sensory processing, functional mobility, fine motor, and visual motor. 
  • Modifies the educational environment; provides adaptive equipment for student access; and trains classroom personnel to properly lift and transfer students, use adaptive equipment and wheelchairs, and provide other services. 
  • Evaluates students, identifies and documents goals, and participates in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 meetings, providing direct occupational therapy services as directed.

     

  • Follows compliance laws for meeting federal and state mandates as well as local policies in the performance of duties such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, Medicaid billing, and report writing.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the Teachers'/SSP’s collective bargaining agreement (This is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws).
  • Other duties, as assigned.
     
 What You’ll Need:
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Experience with pediatric population is preferred.
  • Current Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License - Occupational Therapist is required - Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.
  • National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certificate is required
  • Current Colorado DORA Licensure is required
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to meet District insurability requirements
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment with a positive attitude and problem solving approach
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
