Principal Software Engineer

The Microsoft Mobile Experiences and Platform (MXP) team mission is to empower every person and organization to achieve more, by enriching the Microsoft ecosystem through the seamless connection of Android and iOS devices to Windows, Microsoft Services, and Microsoft Identity.  Our team at Microsoft is responsible for the Phone platform service which activates Phone Link experiences and Link to Windows Android experiences shipped on all Samsung and other OEMs phones, and a number of other exciting incubations and market expansions. The team is looking for a  Principal Software Engineer to break new ground as we take our products to orders of magnitude higher scale, build out the intelligence capabilities to deepen user engagement and create the next generation of cross-device experiences. The team is focused on driving Cross Device Phone platform architecture for our customer demands. As a member of our team, you will participate in all stages of our engineering lifecycle - from initial research and discovery, quick iteration on promising concepts, solution prototyping and development, all the way through successful production support. Developers in the team can wear multiple hats and demonstrate breadth, depth, and leadership. This position will be responsible for areas related to cross device communication including protocol design and implementation, security and authentication and integration with cloud services and Android & iOS.  This role will be responsible for driving platform architecture evolution as well as contributing directly to project execution and supporting other team members.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions. 
• Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design and code reviews.  
• System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions. 
• Discover security flaws in design, and help prevent them from being deployed or implemented 
• Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable. 
• Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas. 
• Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered. 
• Gain a working understanding of Microsoft as a business and collaborate with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.
