The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana State University is searching for an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Practice Skills. The incumbent of this position will teach laboratory sessions in clinical and surgical skills, and communication skills.
Assistant Professor of Veterinary Practice Skills- Clinical Track
- 70%-Provide and supervise veterinary students in pre-operative and post-operative care of live animals. Instruct in clinical and surgical skills laboratories across years 1-4 in the DVM program.
- 15%-Instruct in professional development and communication skills labs across years 1-4 in the DVM program.
- 10%-Develop and administer objective structured clinical skills examinations (OSCEs).
- 5%-Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM degree or equivalent AND three years of veterinary clinical practice experience, including surgery.
Preferred Qualification:
DVM degree or equivalent AND three years of veterinary clinical practice experience, including surgery AND two years of experience in teaching.
Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):
Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing, sitting and walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (far sight), vision (near sight), kneel or sit on the floor, bending, climbing, push/ pulling, grasping, squatting, and/or twisting. Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality. Minor Contact - This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.
This position is subject to oversight and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Requires working with or around areas with hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases.
