Summary
The Accounting Manager - Payroll and Accounts Payable will oversee the Payroll and Accounts Payable (AP) teams, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of high-volume transactions. This role is responsible for day-to-day team management, maintaining adherence to GAAP and internal policies, managing SOX and other key controls across the teams, and driving operational excellence through efficiency, process improvement, and technology enhancements. The Accounting Manager will also serve as a liaison between the teams and technology partners, supporting system projects and initiatives. This role is designed to drive operational excellence while adapting to the evolving needs of the company
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, accounting or related discipline
- And ten years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in accounting functions, utility finance, or other related field.
Demonstrated leadership skills. - Ability to apply broad business perspective to daily operations.
- Effective problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Computer literacy with ability to effectively utilize associated systems and software.
- May require specialized programming knowledge for applications associated with analyses, forecasts, projections, and other studies.
Major Accountabilities
1.) Provide leadership to produce effective teams in an environment consistent with the Company's cultural expectations and vision.
2.) Represent the Company in the local and business community which may require membership in external organizations.
3.) Lead, manage, and develop the Payroll and AP teams, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
4.) Oversee daily processing of payroll and AP transactions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
5.) Monitor and review reconciliations, journal entries, and reports related to payroll and AP.
6.) Establish and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and company policies.
7.) Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
8.) Partner with IT/technology teams to support system enhancements, upgrades, and new implementations affecting payroll and AP.
9.) Collaborate with cross-functional teams including HR, Supply Chain, Treasury, and Finance to support accurate financial reporting and business needs.
10.) Track team efficiency through statistics and metrics to ensure optimal performance.
11.) Prepare and present metrics, analyses, and recommendations to senior management.
