We are seeking an Applied Mathematician with expertise in computational methods and/or statistics to join our Computation and Statistics Team in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Experienced and Senior Level Applied Mathematician.

The Applied Mathematics organization comprises of the most concentrated group of mathematicians at Boeing. The team members conduct research & development and provide consulting for business units on a wide variety of mathematical technologies.

The successful candidate will evaluate resources to solve mathematical and statistical challenges across the enterprise, assist with research, contribute to the development of research proposals, influence colleagues and customers to use mathematical tools and processes, develop solutions and implement algorithms in code, and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop methods and solutions supporting enterprise research and consulting needs in applied statistics and computational mathematics.

  • Lead technical consulting and research in one or more areas of numerical methods, quantum computing/algorithms, industrial statistics, and multi-physics modeling.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, other mathematicians, and engineers to develop requirements, mathematical problem formulations, algorithms and implementations, and to communicate and transition solutions.

  • Contribute to the development of research proposals and assist with mathematical research.

  • Influence colleagues and customers to adopt and apply mathematical tools and processes.

  • Translate complex mathematical concepts into implementable software solutions and robust documentation.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Technical Bachelor's, Master's or a PhD degree (A technical degree is defined as any four-year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study)

  • Graduate research and/or experience in one or more areas that includes statistics, computational methods, quantum computing, and/or machine learning.

  • Strong software programming skills and experience of programming languages such as R, Python, Matlab, Java, C, or C++

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • PhD strongly preferred.

  • Experience with quantum algorithm development and implementation, hands-on expertise in optimization problem formulation and implementation on quantum computing hardware

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and communicate results effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adaptability to changing environments and work statements.

  • Experience working on multidisciplinary teams and a self-starter mindset, with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects across geographical locations.

  • Experience designing, developing, running, and evaluating quantum circuits and programs on simulators and hardware using libraries such as Qiskit, Pennylane, Cirq, etc.

  • Experience developing and/or applying statistical models/methods for engineering, business, and manufacturing systems.

  • Experience applying and adapting technical methods to novel engineering problems and developing new methods when necessary.
