Description:

MDAR: The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources mission is to cultivate a robust and equitable agricultural economy, promote a safe and resilient food system, and preserve a healthy environment for Massachusetts farmers, animals, and consumers.

The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), providing leadership and high-level oversight of agency activities and staff.  MDAR’s mission is to cultivate a robust and equitable agricultural economy, promote a safe and resilient food system, and preserve a healthy environment for Massachusetts farmers, animals, and consumers.  The Chief of Staff’s functions contribute to the success of the agency mission by providing support to the Commissioner’s office, agency managers and staff, ensuring continuity of department operations and operational efficiencies, and through fostering team communications and coordination.   

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Advises and supports the Commissioner in the development, planning and execution of strategic goals and priorities, and the business in front of the agency. Provides input, coordination, tracking, and work products to bolster the success of initiatives. Steers alignment of key goals across the organization.
  • Provides leadership, decision-making and execution of work products on a variety of operational, administrative, policy, strategic planning, budgetary, programmatic, and personnel matters.
  • Effectively oversee, support and ensure effective management of the department’s daily operations.  Make recommendations, provide guidance, support and input or decisions to agency managers and staff to enhance overall team effectiveness and efficiency, and to address time sensitive matters.  Coordinates across agency teams to achieve key objectives, responds and tracks requests from oversight agencies and external stakeholders.  Develop, provide input and/or implement new policies and procedures with a focus on operations and administrative functions in conjunction with the department’s Chief Fiscal Officers, as needed.
