Nordstrom Analytical Platform (NAP) is a real-time, event-streaming-centric analytical platform that provides high-quality, pre-stitched 360 views of our customers, products, inventory, customer service, fulfillment, logistics, and credit. The Data Platform & AI and Insights Delivery organizations are responsible for bringing this vision to life.

The Data Platform & AI teams manage Nordstrom's data infrastructure and utilize machine learning, statistical modeling, and deep analysis to solve critical problems facing JWN's customers and the organization. The Insights Delivery teams source data from across the company, consolidate it at a single location, and generate insights that enable Nordstrom's data analysts, data scientists, leadership, and business users to make informed decisions and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
 

About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead and drive Data Science and Machine Learning programs under the Data Platform & AI organization. The ideal candidate has experience in DS/ML/AI. This role entails overseeing and guiding initiatives that leverage Data Science methodologies to drive insights and innovation in Nordstrom operations. The TPM will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of Data Science projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to implement data-driven solutions that optimize various aspects of the retail business, from inventory management to pricing strategies. This position requires a deep understanding of both technical and business aspects, with a focus on translating data insights into actionable strategies that enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and overall business performance in the dynamic landscape of retail. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders from all functions within the company, exert influence across multiple teams within Nordstrom Technology, and develop insights that support business decision-making and enhance customer engagement at every touchpoint.


A day in the life…

  • Manage cross-functional programs impacting the enterprise that have complex requirements, high risk, and multiple dependencies.
  • Drive the development and execution of the delivery roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, product, and business, to establish a shared vision and requirements.
  • Understand the relationship between technology and the business and how technology enables core capabilities and business unlocks.
  • Utilize cost, risk, and work estimates to prioritize backlog items and shape the roadmap.
  • Proactively propose adjustments to the roadmap when necessary to keep the program on track and achieve objectives.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on enhancing production stability and reliability.
  • Effectively manage urgent issues while maintaining focus on important project work.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks through proactive risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Influence stakeholders and manage dependencies to ensure the optimal overall solution.
  • Effectively communicate information by facilitating various ceremonies with the relevant audience.
  • Measure success, gather data, and leverage insights to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Handle urgent issues as they arise while continuing ongoing important project work, finding the right balance for the business in partnership with Product Management and Engineering Leadership.
  • Be seen as a subject matter expert, able to appropriately represent technical details of their systems in a variety of contexts with a variety of audiences.

You own this if you have…

  • 7+ years of experience in technical program management, data science, or a related field. Experience in Merchandising selling control /revenue management space is a plus!
  • A bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Technical Skills:
    • DS/ML/AI experience is preferred.
    • Data Science & Analytics: Understanding of data science principles, methodologies, and tools. Experience in SQL, Python, R, or other statistical programming languages.
    • Machine Learning: Familiarity with machine learning concepts and frameworks.
    • Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with big data tools and platforms like Hadoop, Spark, or similar.
    • Data Visualization: Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
    • Knowledge of SDLC and engineering best practices.
  • Program Management Skills:
    • Demonstrated successful enterprise program delivery
