About the role

The Women's Operating Room (Women’s OR) is currently hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse who are looking to change their specialty, to participate in our Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) Fellowship. Our unit has eight fully functional, state of the art operating rooms that provide care to patients scheduled for General Gynecology, Gynecological Oncology, Urological Gynecology, and Robotic procedures. Other surgical specialties patients may be scheduled for, in conjunction with Gyn surgery, include Urology, General, Colorectal, and Plastics. Each operating room is similarly equipped so that any surgical procedure can be performed in any room. The patient acuity cared for in the Women’s OR consists of ambulatory, same day admission, and in-patient cases, but patients may also come from the Emergency Room, outside facilities, and directly from home or physician’s offices.

Other surgical specialties patients may be scheduled for, in conjunction with Gyn surgery, include Urology, General, Colorectal, and Plastics. Each operating room is similarly equipped so that any surgical procedure can be performed in any room. The patient acuity cared for in the Women’s OR consists of ambulatory, same day admission, and in-patient cases, but patients may also come from the Emergency Room, outside facilities, and directly from home or physician’s offices. Sign on bonus of up to $20,000 is available and relocation assistance to eligible Nurses.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow, you will communicate effectively with patients, families, team members and medical providers. To help achieve our mission, you will create a collaborative team working environment while displaying respect for and an understanding of various clinical disciplines. Using a focused and integrated approach toward improving desired patient outcomes and patient experience of care delivery is of vital importance. Your participation in learning new knowledge, developing new skills and meeting program objectives to be able to practice in assigned patient care delivery settings while utilizing and applying new knowledge is essential. Demonstrating s willingness to learn under the direct supervision of an experienced RN and through various other training formats is required.

Periop 101, Core Curriculum OR is the premier perioperative nurse education program for RNs entering the perioperative specialty. It fully prepares nurses with consistent, current information in the classroom and online, and clinical experience to reinforce what they've learned. Team members are expected to be in attendance for all classes. The course combines hybrid (online and in-person) education that has been developed using AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice to provide RNs with an evidence-based, comprehensive clinical foundation to ensure optimal outcomes for surgical patients.  The program is developed, researched and continually updated to reflect the latest AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and includes graduate-level QSEN competencies. 

Requirements:

  • Must have 1 year or more of registered nurse clinical experience
  • Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate's degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification issued by the American Heart Association is required
  • RN licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Proficient in English, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skill and the ability to display a caring demeanor towards others
  • Proficient computer skills required.
