About the role

Description

The Principal Investigator will lead community-based participatory research projects focused on chronic psychiatric conditions and health disparities of our patients. The successful candidate will oversee research initiatives aimed at understanding and addressing mental health disparities, testing behavioral interventions to prevent or manage mental illness, promote wellbeing, and improve care delivery methods. Reporting directly to the COO, this role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, academic partners, and community organizations, funded through external grants, including pharmaceutical industry sources.


Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Lead and collaborate on research proposals aligned with our mission to improve mental health outcomes.
  2. Oversee all aspects of research projects, including design, implementation, and analysis.
  3. Translate behavioral science research into practical interventions and programs.
  4. Foster collaborations with scientific, community, and healthcare partners nationally and internationally.
  5. Mentor junior investigators and staff, providing guidance on research methodology and scientific evidence.
  6. Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including GCP and HIPAA standards.
  7. Conduct patient procedures and visits as dictated by the clinical trial protocol.
  8. Maintain documentation of all aspects of the clinical trial.
  9. Stay current with the latest developments in behavioral health and psychiatric research.
  10. Disseminate research findings through presentations, publications, and reports.
  11. Support the organization’s strategic initiatives and contribute to community outreach efforts and ensure all teams are knowledgeable and understand the current clinical trials.
  12. Maintain current up to date curriculum vitae, licensure, and related continuing education requirements and qualifications for study participation.
  13. Attendance to one’s entire shift is an essential function for the role.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education 

  • MD or DO degree

Experience 

  • Proven track record in psychiatric or behavioral health research, with experience obtaining and managing externally funded protocols, preferably pharmaceutical-sponsored.
  • Demonstrated expertise in community-based participatory research, health disparities, or chronic psychiatric conditions.
  • Experience with qualitative, mixed methods, or multidisciplinary research approaches.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skill

Certifications 

  •  MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree with 
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  • Active Alabama medical license.
