The Sr. Engineer will have a solid understanding of engineering and biotechnology fundamentals; and experience improving on-market diagnostic products by updating designs, production methods and maintenance strategies. You will have experience working in cross-functional, multidisciplinary project teams identifying failure modes, analyzing root causes, troubleshooting and implementing methods and protocols for improving the quality and robustness of products.

  • You will work in a fast-paced, cross-functional, multidisciplinary project team environment.

  • You will identify failure modes, analyze root causes, and implement methods and protocols to improve the quality and robustness of ePlex products.

  • You will analyze and resolve complex engineering problems and enhance product quality, reliability, and manufacturability based on customer feedback.

  • You will conduct thorough investigations, provide technical support, and manage detailed engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with standards (e.g., FDA, ISO).

  • You will lead and manage cross-functional projects focused on product enhancement, collaborating with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and other departments.

  • You will analyze data using statistical methods, summarize results, and present findings; drive troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause investigation, and implement corrective actions.
     

This role is based on-site in Carlsbad, CA. (This is not a hybrid role.) This position may require occasional travel to customer sites and manufacturing facilities.

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

Who You Are: 

(Required)

  • You have a BS in Engineering/Science with 6+ years of relevant work experience; or a MS Engineering/Science with 4+ years of relevant work experience or a PhD in Engineering/Science with 3+ years of relevant work experience.

  • You have a proven track record of resolving complex engineering issues and improving product reliability

  • You have strong knowledge of mechanical design principles.

  • You have a proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

  • You have experience with data analysis using JMP, Excel, and/or Spotfire or similar for data analysis is a plus.

  • You have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • You have an ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
     

Preferred:

  • You have 5+ years of relevant industry experience preferably in a product care or post-market environment

  • You have a proficiency with GD&T.

  • You have experience with root cause analysis methods (e.g., FMEA, RCA).

  • You have experience with metrology equipment, e.g., force gauge, CMM/OMM, contact angle measurement, thickness measurement, optical profilometry, microscope.

  • You have a familiarity with Diagnostics and Microbiology
     

Work Environment:

The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments.   The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment. While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.  The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities
