The University of Tennessee Southern enthusiastically invites applications for the position of Chair (Tenure-Track) position of the Jeanette M. Travis School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, the Chair will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the Jeanette M. Travis School of Nursing and Health Sciences. The school of nursing has a low student to faculty ratio and maintains consistently high first-time NCLEX pass rates. This is a full-time, in-person position beginning in August 2025.

• Ensures that the school’s mission, goals, and expected student outcomes are congruent with those of the University and consistent with relevant professional nursing standards and guidelines for the preparation of nursing professionals.
• Responsible for reviewing the mission, goals, and expected student outcomes periodically and revises, as appropriate, to reflect professional nursing standards and guidelines, and the needs and expectation of the community of interest.
• Directs and supervises all matters relating to accreditation including outreach to external agencies and is responsible for compliance with the accreditation standards of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the Tennessee State Board of Nursing, and for reporting to these bodies. 
• Regularly evaluates the curriculum and teaching-learning practices to foster continuous improvement and considers the needs and expectations of the community of interest in the evaluation process.
• Responsible for the preparation, submission, and disbursement of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences budget.
• Responsible for School of Nursing and Health Sciences oversight and coordination of academic matters including class scheduling, faculty teaching loads, coordination of student advising, faculty orientation, catalog changes, and program assessment. 
• Coordinates and facilitates clinical placement needs, assesses quality of clinical facilities, facilitates contracts for clinical experiences, and maintains University/clinical agency relations through the use of effective communication and regular site visits to affiliate agencies (or designee) as needed. 
• Encourages and supports faculty participation in professional, University, and community activities.
• Organizes and participates in meetings of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences Advisory Committee.
• Assesses effectiveness of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences student admissions process and provides recommendations for improvement to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, as needed.
• Regularly surveys and utilizes other data sources to obtain information on student, alumni, and employer satisfaction; retention and graduation rates; NCLEX-RN pass rates; certification examination pass rates; employment rates, etc., and submits and annual report to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs along with recommendations for improvement.
• Prepares performance evaluations of nursing faculty and effectiveness of instructions and assists the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in developing and reviewing jointly the annual performance reviews of instructors. 
• Assists in the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan as it relates to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
• Represents the faculty of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences on the Academic Council and the Curriculum and Academic Policy Committee.
• Serve as an advisor to a student organization when appointed by the Chancellor and serve on faculty and special committees as assigned by the Provost and/or Chancellor.
• Participate in special events including Student Visitation Days, Student Orientation, Graduation, etc., if requested. 
• Contribute to the growth and development of the department through recruiting activities.
• Teach one or more courses each year; not to exceed 20% of total employment time per TN Board of Nursing Rules and Regs. 
• Place a syllabus for each course in student portal, follow the syllabus guide provided by the UT Southern Office of the Provost, maintain attendance records in student portal and submit midterm and final grades through Canvas by the stated deadlines.
• Meet class sessions on the assigned dates and for the entire times stated in the class schedule.
