Assistant Director, Artist Diploma in Opera Studies

Under the leadership of the Director of Artist Diploma in Opera Studies (AD) and Artistic Director, Vocal Arts, the Assistant Director of AD partners with the Director of AD in the long-range planning and day-to-day artistic operations and study plan of the AD program. This position works closely with the Director of AD to develop classroom instruction and curriculum, assist with student coaching and performance preparation, help track student and alumni artistic and professional development, as well as help coordinate with musical advisors, text specialist, Vocal Arts acting faculty, and guest faculty. This position attends performances and rehearsals as appropriate to ensure students are making strides and have what they need to be successful. This position also works closely with the Vocal Arts Staff, Voice Faculty, Vocal Arts Faculty. This position will also participate in annual program admissions auditions.

Role Responsibilities
- Attend all AD classes (4-5 two-hour classes/week) and be prepared to teach or co-teach as assigned
- Attend AD dramatic coachings (approximately 8 hours/week) and be prepared to dramatically coach AD students as assigned
- Assist with the planning, preparation, and producing of AD Open Class
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and proctoring of AD Curricular Auditions
- Participate in annual AD Admissions Auditions
- Administratively support Director of AD program and serve as a liaison with the Vocal Arts staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Artist coach/teacher/director with experience working with classical singers, either in the area of dramatic studies or in other relevant capacities, with a demonstrated track record of teaching and/or advising talented young vocal artists
- Capacity to engage sensitively in the nuanced, confidential, philosophical conversation of the AD program’s daily class, coachings, and meetings
- Capacity to recruit, teach, and interact with a diverse student body of the highest quality
- Knowledge of the current trends in young artist training programs and the profession, as well as the ability to articulate a forward-looking and equitable vision of a conservatory student’s training
- Understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, and the mission of The Juilliard School
