Provides state of the art nutrition education in a variety of settings to patients and their families/care partners, helping to optimize their specific disease management. Clinically focuses on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and weight management. Participates in the development of educational materials. Serves as a resource for quality diabetes nutrition information for patients and other health care team members. Screens patients for nutrition problems; counsels patients on modified diets; develops and implements nutrition care plans; assists with CQI/PI for programs.
QualificationsEDUCATION:
Bachelor's or advanced degree from an approved College in dietetics, foods, nutrition, or institutional management or Masters degree preferred. Internship in hospital or other institution or other route as approved by the American Dietetic Association. Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Licensed by the West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians. Certified diabetes educator (CDE) required or must sit for exam within six months of eligibility.
EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of theory and practice of diets; ability to plan and prepare individual meals; ability to counsel patients on special diets; ability to assess and develop nutrition care plan. Experience in counseling patients in weight reduction and or diabetes. Familiarity with research on the role of dietary factors in heart disease and an ability to explain these concepts clearly to a lay audience. Excellent interpersonal communication and public speaking skills. Desire and ability to work in
a participative team-oriented environment.
