Faculty positions in Data Science (Open-Rank)
The Department of Data Science and Business Analytics is home to two very distinct undergraduate degree programs (BS-Data Science and BS-Business Analytics), and two graduate degree programs (MS in Engineering Management, and MS in Data Science). There are three undergraduate concentrations: Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Quantitative Economics & Econometrics, and Advanced Topics.
Applicants must demonstrate commitment to teaching and teaching excellence in support of the departments’ degree programs. The standard teaching load is three distinct three-credit hour classes each semester. In addition, individuals must be prepared to establish a personal research presence based upon participation in extramural funding efforts, publication of research results in leading scientific journals of their discipline, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to assist in the broader educational mission of the department.
Candidates should be fluent with a wide variety of standard software tools used in data science, for example the NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch libraries for Python and the dplyr, ggplot2, and tidyverse libraries for R.
Candidates interested in and prepared for teaching in more than one of the following areas are especially desired:
- Big data related courses, including implementations using tools such as Hadoop, Apache, Data
Bricks, and Amazon Web Services
- Artificial intelligence applications in data science, including topics such as large language models
and generative pretrained transformers
- A wide array of core data science courses; see the catalog for details.
- Courses from the department’s other degree programs, for example, Benefit-Cost Analysis;
Marketing Analytics; Strategic Management; Supply Chain Risk Management Optimization and
Simulation; or Scientific Computation and Programming. See the undergraduate and graduate

Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for tenure-equivalent faculty positions in Data Science at the rank of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor, to begin January 2025 or August 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of effective university-level teaching
- For the rank of Instructor:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- 18 credit hours in the discipline
- For the rank of Assistant Professor:
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a closely related field earned before the start date
- For the rank of Associate Professor:
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a closely related field earned before the start date
- Currently hold rank of Associate Professor or eligible to apply for Associate Professor at current institution.
- For the rank of Full Professor:
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a closely related field earned before the start date
- 6 years of experience at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates should possess:
- Teaching and/or relevant research/industry experience.
- Experience in curriculum delivery and development.
- Experience as the instructor of record.
- Experience with students’ academic mentoring.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary funded applied research.
- Experience as contributing author or sole author on research proposals.
- Active participation in professional activities and organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse campus community.
COMPENSATION: Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and rank.
