OnsiteWe seek a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Site Manufacturing Engineering Team in Rome, NY. This role is rewarding and exciting, both active in the production environment and in the development of new and improved aerospace manufacturing processes. You will apply knowledge and skill in a variety of manufacturing processes and deepen expertise in a focus area. You will be joining over 200 employees that are responsible from design to delivery of our product, all in one facility. The Rome Facility lies in the Mohawk Valley of Upstate New York, a growing technology hub with availability to various lifestyles within a 20-minute commute. The international airport in Syracuse, NY is 45 minutes away and we benefit from a relative low-cost of living in New York State.
The role will be driving manufacturing producibility, responsible for improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost through applying scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement solutions. The work is independent and as part of a cross-functional team, collaborating in real time using the latest communication tools. The primary customer is our operations team, which will utilize the technologies, components, machines, tools, and systems we provide to produce critical flight safety components.

Onsite:
- The role requires significant direct interaction with products and operations and is therefore an onsite role at our facility in Rome, NY. This position is eligible for relocation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and implements operations sequencing and specification procedures to optimize efficiency and quality in highly complex manufacturing processes. Planning and designing critical manufacturing processes.
- Planning, designing, and selecting specialized or highly regulated manufacturing processes utilizing materials, specifications, tolerances, equipment, fixtures, tooling, and work instructions.
- Drives strategic product line activities and/or operational process modifications with operations and engineering to enhance products and processes and ensure future business needs are met.
- Provides technical leadership and knowledge of Collins Aerospace to internal and external partners, including customers and governmental organizations. Trains staff to diagnose and solve problems while building capabilities.
- Determines other complex technical matters required to make a given product according to the desired volume, timetable, cost, quality level, and other specifications.
- Designs and develops manufacturing processes for products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing. Such design and development may include new or revised processes.
- Deliver innovative data collection for statistical analysis and utilize data visualization to convey technical results to influence others.
- Works with minimal oversight to monitor and improve quality control procedures to ensure that critical processes and products meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in aerospace manufacturing, Recommending acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials.
- Engage suppliers and external partners to provide improved materials, components, and manufacturing processes to enhance products.
- Lead a culture of compliance, ensuring others meet all required documentation of manufacturing processes, procedures, and specifications.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, implementing best practices and incorporating feedback to drive ongoing advancements in aerospace manufacturing.
- Lead and support projects from conception to completion, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
